About Us

SEA, Safety Engineers Association was started in the year 2000. It is a registered body under the Societies Act 1975. This is a non-governmental organization working for enhancement of safety professionalism. The need for an association for the safety professionals was under consideration for a long time and it came into reality in the year 2001. Dr. M.Lakshmanan, then Chief inspector of factories, Government of Tamil Nadu, had taken the initiative to convene a meeting of senior safety professionals to discuss the formation of the association.

Soon,, Mr.W.A.Balakumaran, Director, Regional Labour Institute, Chennai and other senior safety professionals from industries joined hands and formed the association. They also got it formally registered under Societies Act, 1975.

>OUR MEMBERS

Initially, only about 50 safety professionals joined the association. But the association has grown steadily to have more than 730 members as of now. Members are

  • HSE Professionals from all kinds of Industries Manufacturing, Oil& Gas, Chemical Construction. Power plant, Steel Plant, Cement Plant, Mining, Marine, Metro Dams & Tunnel, IT.
  • Directors of DGFASLI, Factory Inspectorates, and Safety law enforcement authorities & members from OHS Government Body
  • Professors / Lecturers of Industrial Safety Department
  • HSE consultancy
  • Safety Equipment manufacturers, suppliers & service providers
  • Student pursuing Industrial Safety from various universities & institutions

Key Objectives

The principal objectives of the SEA are

  • To serve as vital link for HSE professionals
  • To share the knowledge and experience.
  • To interact with another professional organization.
  • To get due recognition of the safety professional by improving their image.
  • To provide advice/guidance/help to industries and safety professionals.
  • To assist statutory bodies in formulating safety and related legislations.

CHAPTERS

To Promote The Local Activities Among Its Members At Different Locations In India, Chapters Of The Association Were Mooted Out. SEA has chapters at most of the states in India. Chapters are formed outside India also viz. UAE, OMAN, Qatar & Saudi Arabia. Further plan to start centres around the globe is on anvil once members join. These Chapter serves to the needs of members around that area.

Activities

Safety Engineers Association offers the following services to the members and carry out necessary activities in the following areas:

  • Membership certificate will be issued to the corporate grade Life members to recognize their membership.
  • The directory of the members of the association will be updated in the association’s website as often as possible in order to help the members to interact amongst themselves.
  • Quarterly Journal / Alerts will be circulated to all the members to disseminate information on Safety, Health and Environment.

  • A Technical Meet / webinar will be conducted once every quarter for the benefit of the members.
  • Visit established industries is arranged for the members to study and appreciate the safety management system followed there.
  • An expert team will be formed, amongst members for taking up Consultancy / Advisory work.
  • Members will be informed about the latest amendments in Statutory Act to update their knowledge.
  • Members will get concessional rates for the books published by the association, and assistance will be given to get safety, occupational Health books
  • Members will be informed about typical serious / fatal accident, and their causes and remedial measures etc.
  • Meetings, conference and workshops will be arranged to exchange the experience and views among its members.
  • Training courses will be taken up by the association to promote the knowledge and skill of safety engineers and others concerned.
  • The activities of the association shall be purely on a No Loss / No Profit basis and shall not be motivated for profit.
  • Activities of the association will be expanded to different parts of India by Constituting “Chapters” for covering different geographical areas..
  • Within the chapters “Action Centers” will be formed to cover the interests of bulk of members present in select towns as required.
  • All the chapters and Action Centers so Constituted will be part of SEA and will be managed under the overall control of the Executive Committee.
  • Constitute or form a part of Federation of safety professional bodies with similar objectives.
  • Associate with other HSE promotional bodies to organize programs and share their experience and knowledge.
  • To conduct suitable professional courses for members and others interested towards enhancing knowledge and skills in occupational Health and Safety.
  • To propagate safety among general public and conduct programmes in schools, colleges, villages, colonies etc., on topics such as Home safety, electrical safety, fire safety, transport safety, Emergency response Etc.
  • To join hands with social agencies and NGOs in providing relief to victims of mass casualty during natural emergences such as earth quakes, flood, tsunami, epidemics etc.
